Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The Momentum Center is launching a new initiative to support local residents impacted by the uncertainty of SNAP benefits. Beginning this month, the organization will host Free Food Fridays at its Grand Haven location, offering warm, nourishing meals for anyone in the community.
The first Free Food Friday coincides with the Momentum Center’s popular Free Dinner and Movie Night on November 14, inviting everyone to share a meal, enjoy a film, and connect with neighbors. Starting November 21, free dinners will continue every Friday evening.
An estimated 3,000 residents in the Tri-Cities area rely on SNAP benefits, and the recent pause has left many families uncertain about how they will put food on the table. The Momentum Center’s Free Food Fridays aim to help bridge that gap — not only by meeting physical needs, but by strengthening the social fabric of the community.
“We know that food brings people together,” said Barbara Lee VanHorssen, Director of the Momentum Center. “This program is about more than just a meal — it’s about connection, compassion, and community resilience.”
A very generous donation pledge from Phil and Joy Weigland has provided the base for being able to launch this initiative. The Momentum Center is grateful for all of the individuals and businesses who have already stepped forward to donate food, funds, and time to make this program possible. At the same time, more support is needed to sustain and expand these efforts. Those interested in contributing can contact the Momentum Center to learn how to donate or volunteer.
Everyone is welcome to attend Free Food Fridays — no registration or eligibility requirements.
