Scholten Statement On Republicans’ Health Care Betrayal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, November 13, 2025  Rep. Hillary Scholten released the following statement on her vote on the Senate-passed deal to reopen the government.

“Since the beginning of this debate, I have been clear: I will vote for a funding package for our country when it addresses the Republican-created health care crisis.

My inbox is full of stories from West Michiganders who do not know how they will afford their health insurance when ACA credits expire at the end of this year. Without these credits, their premiums will rise by as much as 200% or more and we are already seeing Michigan insurance companies leaving the marketplace.

This didn’t have to happen. Republicans had a choice: extend the credits or shut down the government. They chose the most painful option for the American people at every turn—literally opting to take food off the tables of hungry Americans rather than provide affordable healthcare.

Just last night, I introduced numerous amendments to this bill that would lower costs on health care. Republicans refused to consider every single one, leaving the American people high and dry.

Tonight’s bill is a raw deal for the American people, and a boon for billionaires.

I’m voting no.”
