(GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP)-The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a private plane crash in Georgetown Township.
Authorities say early Tuesday afternoon, a Cessna 177 was departing from Riverview Airport, and during takeoff, witnesses observed the plane veering off the east side of the runway.
The aircraft crashed into a water-filled gravel pit next to the airstrip.
Two civilians jumped into the water and assisted the occupants until authorities arrived.
The pilot, an 84-year-old Hudsonville man, and his passenger, an 83-year-old Hudsonville man, sustained serious injuries and are hospitalized in Grand Rapids.
