(Flint, MI) – The city of Flint has finished its lead service pipe replacement effort eleven years after the city’s lead-tainted water crisis became national news. Nearly eleven-thousand pipes were replaced. The water crisis started in 2014 when the state-appointed emergency manager switched Flint’s water supply from the Detroit-supplied system to the Flint River to save money, but did not treat the water to prevent corrosion.
The city was sued by residents and nonprofits in 2017 and agreed to a settlement to replace all lead pipes.
