Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – On Monday night, the Grand Haven City Council approved a zoning ordinance that clears the way for a new Marriott Hotel to be built in the heart of downtown. This follows a preliminary round of zoning changes that were approved two weeks ago.

The proposed hotel has generated excitement among local business owners and developers, who see it as a major opportunity for economic growth and tourism in Grand Haven.

Residents and some city officials have raised concerns about the potential impact on already limited downtown parking. During Monday’s meeting, council members approved the zoning changes but chose to remove a clause related to parking. They said more work needs to be done to ensure a sufficient parking solution is in place.
The city’s planning commission is expected to review the parking issue in the coming weeks. Developers say they’re eager to break ground and begin construction as soon as possible.
