Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03) is endorsing Haley Stevens for the United States Senate. The Democratic Congresswoman announced her candidacy in a video on Tuesday with a focus on the auto industry.
Quote of Support:
“Hard work, ingenuity, service above self–these are West Michigan values, and they’re needed now more than ever in our leaders in Washington. That’s why I am thrilled to endorse my friend and colleague, Rep. Haley Stevens to be the next U.S. Senator for Michigan. I call her the ‘Get Stuff Done Girl’ because I’ve seen firsthand the way she has protected Michigan jobs, stood up to China, and helped ensure America leads in tech and AI. She brings a deep understanding of what it takes to keep Michigan’s economy strong and hard working families supported. But more than anything, Haley Stevens is a servant of the people–she puts Michiganders first every single day, and that’s the difference. I know she’ll bring her passion, experience, and determination to the Senate. Haley Stevens has Michigan’s back–and I’m honored to have hers.”
Background on Rep. Stevens:
“Born and raised in Michigan, Haley understands the value of hard work. That value has guided her entire life and career as she’s fought for Michigan families and Michigan jobs. Haley stepped up to serve as Chief of Staff for President Obama’s Auto Rescue Task Force, saving 200,000 Michigan jobs and stabilizing the auto industry, and now she’s stepping up to continue fighting for Michiganders in the Senate by standing up to the Trump-Musk chaos agenda.”
Stevens is the third Democrat to enter the 2026 race to take over for a retiring Gary Peters. The seat will be a major focus across the country as the Republican party aims to grow its majority as former GOP congressman Mike Rogers is vying for the seat as well.
