Grand Haven Man Charged with Assault

Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – A Grand Haven Army veteran is facing two charges of assault with a weapon after allegedly pointing a rifle at two men outside a home.

Tuesday afternoon in Grand Haven Matthew Pring was arraigned on two charges of assault with a dangerous weapon. TV 13 on your Side reports that during the arraignment, Pring stated that he served in the US army from 2007 until 2013 and was on a fixed income due to disability. Pring also told the judge that he suffered from PTSD.

The incident happened on Monday just after 10:20 a.m. when two men were installing fiber optic cable in the area. They told police that they heard yelling from the home and saw a man holding a rifle pointed at them. After hours and hours of negotiation with Pring, police were able to arrest him using less lethal force. They also found a firearm inside the home.

Pring was given a personal recognizance bond of $5,000 and was appointed a public defense lawyer. He is due back in court on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 8:15 a.m.

After the arraignment, Pring was charged with an additional count of assaulting an officer.
