(Grand Rapids, MI) – Federico “Kiko” Cruz was 16-years-old when he was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 1996 for killing and beheading 17-year-old David Crawford near Sparta. Cruz was resentenced in 2023 to 35-to-60-years in prison due to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that because he was a minor, he could be resentenced. The Michigan Department of Corrections will release him on parole March 25, which is upsetting people like Jason Sagraves, who was 12 at the time the crime happened and says he still vividly remembers what he saw in a video Cruz made that was so graphic, the jury did not get to see it.
Sagraves says Cruz needs to stay in prison.
