(Dallas, TX) — Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the US. That’s according to data in the American Heart Association’s 2025 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update. The annual update published in the association’s flagship journal notes that while medical advances have helped keep people living longer, many risk factors like high blood pressure and obesity, continue to grow at high rates. Data shows cardiovascular diseases claim more lives in the US than cancer and accidental deaths combined, which are the second and third leading causes of death respectively nationwide.
