(Ottawa County, MI) — The Ottawa County board of commissioners has voted to promote Deputy County Administrator Ben Wetmore to interim county administrator. The 6-to-5 vote last night fills the vacancy after the resignation over the weekend of Jon Anderson. Among the five commissioners who voted no was Jacob Bonnema, who said there are county employees who do not want Wetmore to lead them.

Part of the job description reads as follows:

“The County Administrator shall supervise the operations and performance of all County departments and department heads, except corporate counsel and elected officials and their officers, and, with the approval of the Board, appoint and remove all heads of departments, other than elected officials,”

During public comment District 8 county commissioner candidate Becky Patrick added that Wetmore “has been publicly associated with multiple events in which people attempted to publicly trick or embarrass others for personal gain while surreptitiously filming them.”

Wetmore allegedly authored a 2010 plot to lure a female CNN reporter onto a boat where another conservative activist planned to faux-seduce her on camera in an effort to discredit the reporter and her network.
