(Lansing, MI) – Almost all of the eggs sold in Michigan will have to come from cage-free hens starting on December 31st of this year. The law was approved by the Legislature in 2019 to require all eggs sold in the state come from birds that are not in a cage. The requirement, however, does not apply to farms that have fewer than three-thousand egg-laying hens.
The United Egg Producers says just 15-percent of all eggs in the U.S. are from cage-free birds currently.
