(Holland, MI) — Two people have been killed when their car crashed into a tree in Holland early Sunday morning during a police chase. This neighbor did not want to be identified and says they were awoken by gunshots from a Speedway gas station.

““I was just like, did that really just happen?” the neighbor said. “Was that gunshots? Sure enough, by the time we woke up in the morning, our streets was flooded with cops.”

The neighbor, who described the neighborhood as a “tight-knit” and “friendly space,” said the incident was frightening and scary. They had never seen anything like this happen there.

“It’s a little eye-opening honestly,” they said.

Officers were investigating a fight between several people at a Speedway gas station at Washington Avenue and 33rd Street just before 2:30 a.m. and a car fled the scene at a high speed, firing several shots as they left. Police gave chase and say the driver lost control in a curve on 32nd Street near South Shore Drive and slammed into the tree. No names have been released.
