(OTTAWA COUNTY)-The Department of Public Health says a mosquito carrying the West Nile Virus has been found in southwest Ottawa County.
The infected insect was discovered during normal summer monitoring activities.
Officials say this means West Nile is present in the area, and residents need to increase their precautions against mosquitos as the virus spreads through bites.
There is no cure for West Nile Virus, which can cause fever, headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or rashes.
The Ottawa County Department of Public Health stresses there has been no reported human infection with the virus in 2024.
