(White Cloud, MI) – A Newaygo County judge has recused himself from the lawsuit filed by Peter and Annica Quakenbush against Brooks Township over their plans for the state’s first-ever conservation green cemetery. The couple purchased 20 acres off of East 72nd Street two years ago with the idea to bury bodies that are not embalmed and are in biodegradable caskets and clothing.

He says they want to create a cemetery and nature preserve and part of the sale of each plot is for the “perpetual care of the land.” In their lawsuit, they say the township specifically targeted them with a new ordinance banning cemeteries.
