By Mary Ellen Murphy Jun 18, 2024 | 6:28 AM
Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Ottawa County Commissioner  Chris Kleinjans has released a statement regarding the story released by Sarah Leach on her substack  about his termination from his job at MSU Extension after he defeated Lucy Ebel in the special recall election for District 2 County Commissioner in Ottawa County. Kleinjans served as a community nutrition instructor at the MSU extension.
A partner letter is also attached.
Statement from Chris Kleinjans on My Employment with MSU Extension:

I am confirming that MSU Extension ended my employment effective June 4, 2024, citing the Incompatible Public Offices Act 566 of 1978. They advised me that they did not believe I could continue working effectively with their partners while also fulfilling the office of Ottawa County commissioner, to which I was recently elected. This was the sole reason for my termination. There was no job performance issue, no personal or professional impropriety, nor any other cause for MSU Extension’s decision.

Attached is a letter I sent on June 7, 2024, to the partners with whom I was working, which provides some additional information. I am currently pursuing legal remedies and seeking to be reinstated to my position. Because of that, I am unable to comment further on the legal elements of this situation.
