Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Chris Crothers has announced that he has filed to run as a Democratic candidate for county commissioner in the 4th district.

“I am running to restore responsible governance to Ottawa County,” Crothers said. “I stand for community, transparency and a truly representative democracy.”

Born in Holland and raised in Zeeland, Crothers grew up very involved at Central Wesleyan Church. After graduating from Zeeland East High School, he attended GVSU for engineering but ultimately chose to leave and pursue his passions. In 2015 he had a dream of opening a space where the community could gather. Then, in 2019, he got the opportunity to help start Tulip City Brewstillery.
Crothers is now the head brewer as well as a member of leadership at Tulip City Brewstillery and Hopland Brewstillery. Building those local small businesses led him to discover his passion for community, a passion that has grown through collaborations with local non-profits and participation in community events. He strongly advocates for community involvement and firmly believes creating free and welcoming third spaces are crucial for meeting the diverse needs of our residents.

“Viewed from a community perspective, the role of county commissioner should be impartial and inclusive, dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of our residents and protecting our natural resources,” Crothers said.

Through his affiliation with the breweries, Crothers has worked with Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP),Women of Color Give (WOCG), Harbor Humane Society, Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance (LEDA), Out on theLakeshore, Tulip Time, Hope Pkgs, Community Action House, I Am Academy, Resilience, Outdoor Discovery Center, Holland Museum, and 3-Sixty.
Crothers promotes true transparency in county government, with a promise to be open and honest about the intentions and potential effects of the commissioners’ decisions. As a commissioner, he will promote collaboration and data-driven decision-making to ensure everyone in the county has what they need to thrive.

“My goal is to make Ottawa County a place where transparency, inclusivity and community are not just buzzwords, but guiding principles,” Crothers said. “As a county commissioner, I’ll engage with the community, seek input from all corners, and work together to build a better Ottawa County for everyone.
