Ottawa County Property Tax Increase Expected

By Mary Ellen Murphy Feb 8, 2024 | 7:28 AM

(Grand Haven, MI) – Property taxes in Ottawa County will likely go up five-percent for the second-straight year. Ottawa County Equalization Director Brian Busscher said “preliminary numbers” show the probable increase for 2024, which is the highest allowed by state law. Busscher told the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners last week the increase is necessary due to the inflation rate going up by five-point-one percent.

The state passed a law in 1994 to set a limit on annual property taxes. Last year was the first time Ottawa County property taxes reached the five-percent increase since the law was passed.
