(Hudsonville, MI) – Hudsonville Mayor Mark Northrup will run for the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners, challenging chairman Joe Moss. Northrup and Moss are both Republicans, but the mayor says they are “polar opposites.” The county board was taken over by a majority of commissioners backed by Moss’ Ottawa Impact conservative action group and Northrup says their actions have upset many county residents. He says they need to be thoughtful, appropriate, not have hidden agendas and bias and adds no one is winning as things are now.

Board Chair Joe Moss gave a State of the County address. Hear it here.

Fox 17 reports that signatures are no longer being collected for the recall of Commissioners Doug Zylstra and Roger Bergman. The two commissioners faced losing their commission seat after they voted no on the ‘Protect Childhood Innocence’ Resolution. That effort has now been suspended.

Commissioner Lucy Ebel is facing a recall election in May.

Ottawa County’s Democratic Party announced Christian Kleinjans as the candidate to run in the race for the District Two seat.
