Muskegon Luge Adventure Park Using Synthetic Ice For Skating

(Laketon Township, MI) – The Muskegon Luge Adventure Park has opened a synthetic ice rink for people to skate on. Outdoor adventure specialist Dan Bonner says there is a layer of silicon on the top to give skaters some glide and says it feels similar to skating on ice.

” It’s ninety percent the glide that you would get on an ice skating rink but you don’t get as much as an edge on natural ice but you can use hockey skates and recreational skates too. We make everything here with natural conditions. We need at least four inches of snow to pack down to make a natural liner for ice skating rinks. When were waiting on snow we can people out and active on ice skates.”

The park has struggled with other outdoor recreation areas this winter due to the warm weather and lack of snow. They needed to rebuild their luge run last year three times due to warm weather.
