(Lansing, MI) – Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens is no longer a member of the state’s Democratic Party. The party chair, Curtis Hertel, posted Sunday that Stevens had been removed from the party after her endorsement of GOP Senate nominee Mike Rogers over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. Stevens, who lost to El-Sayed in the primary, endorsed the Republican after a public split with El-Sayed, primarily over his position on Israel.
When asked about her decision to endorse Rogers, Stevens said at a news conference it was in response to “hate” and El-Sayed’s ties to progressive streamer Hasan Piker. In her endorsement video, Stevens said she was “still a very proud Democrat.”
