MICHIGAN — U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., has endorsed Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers, breaking with her party’s nominee Abdul El-Sayed just days before the election.
Stevens announced her decision Sunday in a video saying El-Sayed had told her she was no longer welcome in his campaign and should stay away.
The endorsement marks a reversal from Stevens’ position just days earlier, when she said she would support the Democratic ticket and planned to attend a Sunday campaign event for El-Sayed.
The development comes in the final days of a closely watched Michigan Senate race that could play a role in determining which party controls the U.S. Senate.
