(Covert Township, MI) – U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright predicts Holtec International’s Palisades nuclear power plant on the shore of Lake Michigan will restart by the end of 2026. Wright toured the facility yesterday in Covert Township and says he hopes it will restart by the end of November. An issue in August paused the refueling when an upright fuel assembly tilted when crews were loading radioactive fuel rods into the reactor.

Congressman Bill Huizenga, who voted against the bill that provided federal funding to restart the plant when Joe Biden was President, was on hand and said expanding nuclear power is a goal of the Trump administration.
