(Boston, MA) – A new study shows an overwhelming majority of pro football players who died in a 15-year span had signs of CTE. Seventy-five-percent had signs of the degenerative brain disease according to the study published Wednesday in JAMA Network Open. The study looked at more than 23-hundred former NFL players who died between 2008 and 2023. The 75-percent figure is the highest found to date.

In a statement, the NFL said it “continuously strives to make the game of football safer, including by implementing strategies to reduce concussions and head impacts.”
