Ottawa County, MI (WGHn) – No injuries were reported after a crash temporarily closed eastbound I-196 near the Ottawa-Kent county line early Thursday morning. Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies were called to the area near the 66-mile marker in Georgetown Township around 12:30 a.m.
Authorities say a sedan struck a deer and became disabled, leaving it partially in the roadway. An SUV then approached the scene and clipped the disabled car, blocking all eastbound lanes.
The drivers, a 26-year-old Zeeland woman and a 20-year-old Wyoming man, were not hurt. Deputies secured the scene while tow trucks removed the vehicles and crews cleared debris from the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation.
