(Harrison Township, MI)  —  Construction has started on the Selfridge Air National Guard Base runway.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday to make the runway one-thousand-feet longer to the north and the expansion will bring at least four newly built F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets.
That’s Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.  Governor Gretchen Whitmer, state Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks, and state House Speaker Matt Hall were also among the speakers at the ceremony as the two parties came together for the 152-million-dollar bill signed by Whitmer on May 27th.  Michigan National Guard Major General Paul Rogers says Selfridge is the last of what the Air Force calls a “Super Base” in the U.S. and is wholly owned and operated by the U.S. Air Force.
