(Allendale Township, MI) – New details are being released after a deadly hit-and-run at Grand Valley State University. The incident happened last Friday, when a student, now identified as 18-year-old Jaisten Thomas, allegedly struck 69-year-old Debra Smith and then fled from the scene. Smith was working as a contracted security officer when she was struck and killed. Smith also worked as a healthcare instructor at Grand Rapids Community College, where she taught in the Medical Assistant program.
Thomas has been taken into custody on a charge of failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious impairment or death.
