Cook Political Report: Michigan’s 4th District U.S. House Race A Toss-Up

By Mary Ellen Murphy Oct 12, 2026 | 7:17 AM

(Kalamazoo, MI) – Michigan’s 4th U.S. House district, which has long been a Republican stronghold, is now rated a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report. Incumbent Republican Bill Huizenga of Zeeland is facing Democratic state Senator Sean McCann of Kalamazoo. The Cook Political Report says polling is continuing to show the two are effectively tied in a district President Trump won by over five-percent in 2024, and they also cite Trump’s approval rating in the district is at just 39-percent.

The district had been “lean Republican.”
