GRAND HAVEN, MI – Two students were treated for smoke inhalation after a Thursday morning fire at Grand Haven High School prompted an evacuation and canceled classes for the rest of the day.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. when the school’s resource officer noticed smoke coming from a second-floor restroom.
The officer, who was in the hallway, acted quickly and used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
Students and staff were removed while Grand Haven Township Fire Rescue and other emergency workers arrived on scene.
