A Spooky and Flavorful Weekend is Coming to Downtown Grand Haven

By Mary Ellen Murphy Oct 5, 2026 | 7:36 AM

GRAND HAVEN, MI —  October is arriving in Downtown and Centertown, and Grand Haven Main Street DDA is kicking off the month with three events that invite residents and visitors to explore local businesses, enjoy the community, and experience something a little different around town.

On this Grand Haven Main Street Spotlight we check in with Executive Director Chandi Pape:

From skeletons appearing throughout the district to witches taking over the streets and a Saturday dedicated to eating your way through Centertown, the weekend of October 1 through 3 offers something for everyone.

Bones About Town Begins October 1

Beginning Thursday, October 1, skeletons will start appearing throughout Downtown and Centertown as local businesses transform their spaces for Bones About Town, a month long Halloween display featuring creative and unexpected skeleton scenes.

Visitors can explore the district throughout October to discover the displays, see how participating businesses have brought their skeletons to life and cast their votes for their favorites. Voting runs October 1 through October 23, giving everyone plenty of time to make their way around town and see the displays.

The winning displays will be announced and awards presented on the morning of Saturday, October 24, kicking off the day’s Fall Fest activities in Downtown and Centertown.

Businesses that would like to participate but do not have a storefront in the district can also get in on the fun. Display spaces are available in Central Park for businesses interested in creating a Bones About Town display. To apply for a display space, email cpape@grandhaven.org.

With skeletons appearing around town and voting underway throughout October, Bones About Town gives visitors another reason to explore Downtown and Centertown and see what they discover around the next corner.

Witches & Warlocks Night Out Takes Over Downtown and Centertown

On Friday, October 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., the spell is cast for Witches & Warlocks Night Out.

The evening begins at The Brass River in front of Lynne Sherwood Stadium, where participants can pick up their spellbook and begin their journey through Downtown and Centertown.

Chow Down Centertown Returns October 3

The weekend wraps up on Saturday, October 3, with Chow Down Centertown, a food truck rally and vintage shopping experience from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Come hungry, because 10 food trucks will be serving up a variety of food throughout the afternoon. But the food is only part of the experience. 35 vendors will be showcasing their best vintage finds, including apparel, accessories, beauty and self-care items, and just about anything else that goes on your body.
