By Mary Ellen Murphy Oct 3, 2026 | 3:02 PM

(Atlanta, GA) – The American Cancer Society is highlighting action that can be taken to lower the risk of women getting cancer during this Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The organization conducted a survey of 33 thousand U.S. women and found risk factor awareness is high, but many women are not taking action to lower the risk. The American Cancer Society says most women are aware drinking alcohol raises risk but 69 percent drink.

Also, 91 percent of women know low activity level raises risk, but more than one quarter of women don’t meet the organization’s exercise recommendations.
