Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – A Muskegon Heights man will spend a year in the Ottawa County Jail for an attempted home invasion in Spring Lake Township.
Forty-two-year-old William Ray Nickson pleaded guilty to attempted third-degree home invasion for his role in a January 2025 break-in attempt on Yorkton Drive. Nickson told the court he kicked the door several times while trying to get inside. He said he and another person planned to steal items from the home.
The attempt was unsuccessful, and the two left.
The Grand Haven Tribune reports that at Monday’s sentencing, Nickson’s attorney asked for probation, saying Nickson had been with the wrong crowd at the time.
Judge Jon Hulsing cited Nickson’s criminal record, including previous convictions for assault and battery and breaking and entering.
Hulsing sentenced Nickson to 365 days in jail. He receives credit for 87 days already served.
