(Grand Rapids, MI) – A new long-term energy roadmap submitted to state regulators could dramatically shift statewide utility programs over the next two decades. DTE Energy submitted a proposal to the Michigan Public Service Commission calling for transitioning away from coal and expanding statewide frameworks like “virtual power plants” that use residential batteries to support the electric grid. Meanwhile, a legal battle is still playing out in West Michigan. Consumers Energy wants to retire the 64-year-old J.H. Campbell coal plant but the Trump Administration says that could threaten the stability of the Midwest power grid. So, they have been fighting it out court.
The plant currently remains open through November 14th under an emergency extension order issued by the U.S. Department of Energy.
