(Washington, DC) – The Trump administration is removing nearly 760-thousand people from coverage under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, alleging fraud. Vice President JD Vance and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz made the announcement Tuesday from the White House. The move would save the federal government an estimated two-point-two-billion dollars, according to the White House. Oz said many of the people being removed aren’t real people and Vance said that several aren’t using the program or don’t know they’re enrolled. The administration is also planning additional verification on another 419-thousand names they suspect of fraudulent enrollment.
Around 19 million people are enrolled in health plans under the ACA. More than two-and-a-half million have dropped out after Republicans allowed subsidies that helped pay for coverage expire.
