(Grand Traverse County, MI) –An F-16 Fighting Falcon military jet crashed around 2 p.m. Thursday in Grand Traverse County. The plane is part of the Texas Air National Guard’s 149th Fighter Wing as they are training at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center. The pilot ejected safely and is hospitalized in stable condition. Residents within a mile of the crash site were ordered to evacuate.
Michigan State Police say the evacuation was due to a hazardous chemical spill from the crash.
