South Haven Lifeguards Wrap Up 2026 Season With No Drownings

(South Haven, MI) — The first summer for lifeguards in 25 years in South Haven has come to an end with no drowning deaths in Lake Michigan. The city added the lifeguards at the urging of parents who lost their adult children to the lake in the past five years. The revived lifeguard program includes a chief lifeguard and a seasonal crew that is trained in first aid, water rescue and surf conditions.

The lifeguards will remain on South Beach in South Haven in 2027.
