(Detroit, MI) – The mayor of Detroit is confirming that a large tornado tore through the lower east side of the city on Thursday. The National Weather Service says the EF2 tornado was packing winds of 115 miles per hour as it created a three-mile path of destruction late Thursday afternoon from Mount Elliott Street to Belle Isle. One man was reportedly injured during the storm when he protected his child from a falling tree.
More than 350-thousand customers lost power during the storm. It was Detroit’s first tornado in nearly 30 years.
