Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The City of Grand Haven  has approved changes to the city’s wheeled device ordinance. The updated ordinance expands restrictions to include e-bikes, e-scooters and e-skateboards. Those devices are now prohibited on Grand Haven’s 1.5-mile boardwalk along the Grand River Harbor.

Regular bicycles are still allowed on the boardwalk, although reckless riding remains a violation.

Mayor Bob Monetza:

The ordinance also changes the seasonal downtown Wheel Control Zone to a No Wheel Zone. The restrictions apply between Harbor Drive and Third Street from Memorial Day through Labor Day and include the 100 block of Washington Avenue when the street is closed to traffic.

The changes were recommended by the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety following complaints from the public. Officials plan to focus on education before increasing enforcement. Violations can result in a municipal civil infraction and a fine of up to $100.
