GRAND HAVEN & GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Mosaic Counseling is pleased to announce the promotion of Stephanie Szymas to Deputy Executive Director. In this expanded leadership role, Szymas will serve alongside Executive Director Sarah Lewakowski, supporting the organization’s continued growth, strategic direction, and commitment to providing accessible and affordable counseling services throughout West Michigan.
Szymas’ relationship with Mosaic began before she officially joined the organization. As a multi-client lobbyist with McAlvey Merchant & Associates, she represented Mosaic in Lansing for years and played an instrumental role in advancing the agency’s priorities, strengthening relationships with legislators and state leaders, and securing increased state funding to support Mosaic’s mission.
In January 2026, Szymas joined Mosaic full time as Director of Strategic Initiatives. Since then, she has demonstrated strong organizational leadership while advancing initiatives related to government relations, fundraising and development, communications, community partnerships, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability. Her ability to build relationships, identify opportunities, and move strategic priorities forward has helped position Mosaic for its next chapter of service and impact.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’m thrilled to congratulate Stephanie on her new role as Deputy Executive Director,” said Christine Clover, president of Mosaic Counseling’s Board of Directors. “Stephanie’s commitment to Mosaic’s mission, our staff, and the communities we serve is evident in all she does.”
“This is an exciting time at Mosaic as we continue to grow and expand our reach to help even more people,” said Executive Director Sarah Lewakowski. “The new Deputy Executive Director position will play an important role in supporting Mosaic’s continued growth and success. I am thrilled that Stephanie will be stepping into this role and have complete confidence in her abilities, leadership, and commitment to Mosaic’s mission. I am excited to see how she will help propel Mosaic forward and build upon all that we have already accomplished.”
“I am deeply grateful and honored to step into the role of Deputy Executive Director,” Szymas said. “My journey with Mosaic began by representing and advocating for the organization in Lansing, and it has grown through the opportunity to join the team, learn the agency from the inside out, and work alongside the remarkable people who bring its mission to life each day. I am incredibly excited to help lead Mosaic into its next chapter and continue advancing both its mission and the organization itself – always keeping the individuals, families, and communities we serve at the heart of every decision we make. Thank you to everyone who has placed their trust in me. I look forward to all the good we will accomplish together – and the meaningful difference we will make in the lives of so many.”
As Deputy Executive Director, Szymas will work closely with Lewakowski and Mosaic’s board to advance organizational priorities, strengthen internal and external partnerships, enhance organizational best practices, and support the agency’s continued growth and expansion across Ottawa and Kent counties.
