(Ottawa, Ontario) – U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra, who is a former west Michigan congressman and former chair of the Michigan Republican Party, might be kicked out of Canada. He is the target of a parliamentary petition that seeks to have him declared “persona non grata” and removed from Canada, and the Toronto Globe and Mail reports over 29-thousand people have signed it so far. The petition accused Hoekstra of damaging relations between the two countries, citing characterizing President Trump’s talk of making Canada the 51st state a “term of endearment.”
It also says he described the 2025 federal election in Canada as “anti-American” and asks the government to review alleged American interference in Canadian domestic affairs.
