Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) -Drivers should expect major traffic changes in Grand Haven on Saturday, Aug. 1, for the Coast Guard Festival Parade and fireworks.
Parade staging begins at 9 a.m. near Lakeshore Middle School, with neighborhood street closures in place. The parade route will close completely at 10:30 a.m., and no vehicles will be allowed on or near the route until it reopens.
For the evening fireworks, several downtown streets, including Harbor Drive and portions of Columbus, Washington, Clinton, Lafayette and Howard, will close to traffic starting at 6:45 p.m. and remain closed until about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Franklin Street will become one-way eastbound after the fireworks, Seventh Street will close north of Franklin at 10 p.m., and no parking will be allowed on Franklin between Beacon Boulevard and Harbor Drive beginning at 6 p.m. to provide an emergency vehicle lane.
Drivers should also expect traffic restrictions on U.S. 31, with no left turns allowed between Jackson and Robbins roads after the fireworks. The Grand Haven drawbridge will not open between 10 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday.
Police are reminding residents and visitors to expect heavy traffic, allow extra travel time, and watch for temporary no-parking and tow-away zones throughout the city.
