PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Spectrum lineman died Friday afternoon after an apparent workplace electrocution in Port Sheldon Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The Grand Haven Tribune reports that the victim has been identified by family as Wallace Struntz, 53, of Grand Haven.
Deputies responded to a 911 call from Spectrum at approximately 2:35 p.m. on July 24 in the area of 6965 Holly Drive. According to authorities, the company reported that a lineman had been found unresponsive in the elevated bucket of a boom truck. Struntz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said Struntz had been working on utility lines in the area when the incident occurred. Preliminary findings indicate the death was the result of an accidental electrocution, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Struntz was a U.S. Navy veteran who began working for the company now known as Spectrum while still serving in the military, according to his father, Wally Struntz.
