Taco Bell Possibly Linked To Cyclosporiasis Outbreak

By Mary Ellen Murphy Jul 16, 2026 | 7:57 AM
(Undated)  —  Health officials reportedly believe there may be a link between a fast-food restaurant and the growing cyclosporiasis outbreak.  NBC’s Anne Thompson has more.
In recent days, signs appeared at Detroit-area Taco Bell restaurants notifying customers that the locations could not serve lettuce, cilantro, onions, Pico de Gallo or guacamole because of “a national recall.”  There are now almost seven thousand cases of the stomach bug across 34 states.  The investigation reportedly involves both federal and state health officials.  The FDA has not announced any recall involving Irvine, California-based Taco Bell.
Thompson reports the source of the outbreak is under investigation.
Michigan’s chief medical executive, Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian says officials are working to determine the source.
