Meerman helps secure funding for Blackmer Road project, helps block any tax increases in bipartisan state budget plan

Lansing, MI (WGHN) – State Rep. Luke Meerman, R-Coopersville, voted to advance the Michigan House Republican budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year, which is smaller than last year’s budget agreement. House Republicans say the proposal reduces overall spending while maintaining funding for priorities such as education, public safety, and infrastructure.

The budget also includes funding requested by Meerman for repairs to approximately 5.5 miles of Blackmer Road between Mortimer and Wilson roads in Ravenna during the 2026-27 fiscal year.

In addition, the proposal eliminates funding for 250 long-vacant state positions. House Republicans say the change is intended to improve transparency by removing funding for positions that departments have not filled.

The budget proposal must still complete the legislative process before becoming law.
