The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on 48th Avenue near Bauer Road, just south of Grand Valley State University. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the woman, from Dexter, was driving north when her Volkswagen Jetta crossed the center line and struck a semi hauling mulch.
The impact forced the truck across the roadway and into a drainage ditch, where it overturned onto its side. Diesel fuel spilled from the truck into the ditch, and the sheriff’s office HazMat team responded to contain and clean up the leak.
The semi driver, a 27-year-old man from Dorr, and his 18-year-old passenger were not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
