Wright Twp., MI (WGHN) – Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the wrong-way crash on I-96 in Ottawa County that claimed three lives on June 19.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 53-year-old Tammy Morris-Robinson and 50-year-old Robert Robinson. The couple died after a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Darron Trevino collided head-on with their vehicle in the eastbound lanes of I-96 near the Marne exit.
Deputies said Trevino was traveling the wrong way when the crash occurred around 3:25 a.m.
Investigators said alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash but have not determined which driver may have been impaired. The investigation remains ongoing.
The I-96 crash was one of three fatal crashes in West Michigan within a four-hour period that morning.
