(Lansing, MI) – Medical debt of 74-million-dollars for over 71-thousand Michiganders has been wiped from the books. Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the second round of medical debt forgiveness in the state yesterday. The state worked with Undue Medical Debt to help families who were having to chose between “putting food on the table or paying their medical bills at a time when so many already are struggling with rising costs on the essentials” according to Whitmer.
The national nonprofit acquires medical debt for people who are least able to pay, with every dollar donated settling 100-dollars in debt.
