(Lansing, MI) – Democrats in the Michigan Senate have introduced a package of bills to regulate data centers in the state. The seven bills would mandate water infrastructure upgrade costs not be passed on to residents near the data centers and would cap water use at two-million-gallons daily. Data centers would also be required to pay for a minimum of 90-percent of their energy usage, put up collateral for when they close, and use 90-percent clean energy.
Senator Kevin Hertel says Michigan will take steps to protect the environment and strengthen communities with the bills.
