Wright Twp., MI (WGHN) – Three people were killed in a wrong-way crash early Friday morning on Interstate 96 in Ottawa County, according to authorities.
The crash occurred just before 3:30 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of I-96 in Wright Township. Investigators say a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes collided head-on with another vehicle.
The wrong-way driver, a 24-year-old man from Clyde, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the second vehicle, a 53-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man, both from Muskegon, also died as a result of the crash.
Following the collision, eastbound I-96 west of Exit 23 was closed while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
