Zeeland Twp., MI )(WGHN) –  A Wednesday night crash left a major Zeeland Township intersection closed after traffic signals were damaged and left hanging over the roadway.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. at Chicago Drive and Byron Road. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, a 20-year-old Farmington Hills woman was traveling west on Chicago Drive when she attempted to turn onto Byron Road. Deputies said she failed to complete the turn, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a utility pole and traffic signal equipment.

The driver was not injured and declined medical treatment.

The collision snapped support wires in the intersection, causing the traffic signals to lose power and hang low above the roadway. The intersection remained closed Thursday as crews worked to repair the damage.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is handling repairs, which officials said could take an extended period of time. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes until the intersection reopens.

Anyone with information related to the crash is encouraged to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
