Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) –  Families are invited to celebrate the start of the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge during the Grand Adventure Kick-Off Party on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grand Haven Central Park.

Hosted by Loutit District Library, the free event will feature activities, entertainment, and opportunities for participants to register for the library’s summer reading program.

The celebration includes a bubble party with DJ Miss Elizabeth, music from DJ Jorty Jake, and a live performance by instrumental folk band Whorled. Visitors can also enjoy face painting, craft stations, yard games, a bike obstacle course, and a used book sale hosted by the Friends of the Library’s Cheapstacks Used Bookstore.

Community organizations participating in the event include the Midwest Miniatures Museum, Tri-Cities Historical Museum, Children’s Advocacy Center, and MACkite. Arturo’s Tacos food truck will be on-site, and free frozen custard will be available from the Culver’s custard cart while supplies last.

The event marks the launch of The Grand Adventure, Loutit District Library’s annual Summer Reading Challenge. The program encourages participants of all ages to read books, complete activities, and attend library programs throughout the summer to earn points. Those points can be exchanged for prize drawing entries.

This year’s grand prizes include LEGO sets, a Yeti cooler, musical instruments, and gift cards to local businesses.

In the event of rain, the kick-off party will be moved inside the library.
